My Testimony
I would like to tell you my personal testimony. My mother sought to bring us up in the fear of God despite the hardship of being married to a drunkard. We were sent to Sunday School and taken to the Breaking of Bread and also gospel meetings.
When I commenced my working life at the age of 16, the influence of ungodly men in my work environment was effective in me severing all ties with assembly meetings. Despite having had a desire to be saved when younger and also having made a number of empty professions, I had nothing to effect the needed change in my life.
After three years of open rebellion and resistance, I attended a Breaking of Bread meeting. This was only because a young lady, who was a believer, to whom I had been writing regularly, came to Melbourne to work and visited the assembly to remember the Lord. That was all the Lord needed to reach me.
As the believers remembered the Lord my eyes were opened to the truth of John 1:29, and I saw the Lamb of God, the bearer of my sins. The sight broke my resistance. I confessed my sin and received the Saviour of sinners.
A chorus which used to make me very uncomfortable became a reality: "What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought, Since Jesus came into my heart, Floods of joy filled my soul' My favourite verse was 2 Cor 5:17: 'Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away, behold, all things are become new'.
Two weeks later I was baptized and the following Lord's Day met with the saints to likewise remember the Lord. I am still learning by practical experience the truth of baptism. The young lady became my wife.
After our marriage we met with the believers at South Oakleigh, Melbourne for about seven years. Since moving to Queensland to raise our family we have gathered with the saints at Toowoomba for over 20 years.
